Broadcasting Ministry asks press council to probe into misreporting by the Gujarati Daily Sandesh!

Jan 21, 2010

The Broadcasting Ministry has asked the Press Council of India to take appropriate action against the misreporting by Sandesh newspaper.

In December, ISO held an 18 day dharna and campaign in N. Delhi to protest against the false, baseless allegations by this newspaper to defame Asaram Bapu and his Ashrams.

ISO also filed a complaint with the broadcasting ministry asking to probe into the slew of articles published against the revered saint. The articles printed by the Gujarati daily appeared baseless, incriminating, and derogatory and needed to be investigated into, especially for signs of conspiracy.

Yellow journalism cannot go unnoticed for long. There have been several instances of misreporting and denunciatory adjectives used by this newspaper to mislead and instigate against the saint and his Ashrams. Earlier also, there have been several incidents where Press Council slammed this newspaper (for publishing 'scurrilous' reports during Godhara communal carnage in Gujarat) for the infraction of the norms of journalistic conduct in their reports appeared aimed at creating a sensation in the surcharged atmosphere by publishing misleading and inflammatory articles; using provocative and instigating language; and causing divisiveness and hatred among the common people.

International Spiritual Organisation (http://www.internationalspiritualorganisation.org/) and all concerned Indian citizens applaud this recent action by the Broadcasting ministry against deliberately distortional reporting by this newspaper under the umbrella of “free speech”.
